Conservation in Ecuador - Amazon Program
Conserve and reforest the Amazon rainforest, help communities to develop sustainable vegetable and fruit gardens, and improve the structures and facilities of jungle schools.
Volunteering
The conservation and community project gives volunteers the special opportunity to work with community development, reforestation and help improve the infrastructure of local schools.
The mission of Great Aves (the charity of which You Volunteer is a part of), is to improve education in rural areas. We see this as not just being confined to the classrooms for local students, but an education process for the communities moving from one way of life to another.
Where You Volunteer in the Amazon of Ecuador
Set amongst stunning scenery the Arajuno road weaves its way through the outer Amazon, frequently offering clifftop views over the miles and miles of virtually untouched rainforest.
In between the towns of Arajuno and Puyo are scattered communities of farmers and lumberjacks, the small hamlet of 10 de Agosto and the halfway town of El Triunfo. Aside from the games of volleyball and the frequent fiestas, the towns and communities are yet to yield to the commodification of modern Ecuador.
Our current vehicle is over 30 years old, and has served us well over the last few years, but its life is coming to an end. We urgently need a new vehicle to help us get to the schools and function properly as a project.

Second tri-mester exams are now complete! We relax and celebrate Semana Santa (East week) with the locals- Cooking class tomorrow!

Teaching Appreciation Day was well spent! Now back to administering exams!

We have pancake day, South America has carnival (Made famous by Rio de Janeiro). Lasts all week with parades through the streets of Puyo
