The month of March brought a lot fun! Carnaval activites were held at Angel Manzano, the school at km 22 Via Arajuno. The volunteers loved to be able to play with the kids and see them in a different setting than the classroom. Rachel and I also heard stories about the Carnaval maddess that ravaged the streets of puyo for this 4-day holiday, lots of foam, buckets of water, live music and even jungle themed body painting competitions!
Currently in the schools we are in exam review as the 2nd trimester winds to an end. We are excited to see the progress the children are making written in black and white.
A steady flow of volunteers have been passing through and leaving their mark not only in the classrooms, but also at the jungle house. We our now proud owners of a handmade ping-pong table. Also, our garden boasts a fence that rivals that of Ecuadorian handiship. Nice work!
The car is still moving along, but we had quite a different issue the other day. The rainy season has been more rainy than we could have imagined and after 2 straight days of heavy showers, our hill suffered a landslide that did not permit our car passage. I have to hand it to our new assistant coordinator, Kelsey, who decided that exam review could not skipped, and continued on to catch the bus and walk from there to school!! Welcome to the jungle Kelsey!!
Even with all the rains we have been able to enjoy a few sunny afternoons these last few weeks at the waterfall in Triunfo. It is a large waterfall with a pool large enough to swim…and lunch tastes so much better sitting just out of reach of the powerful spray.
On a final note, the road work is progressising slowly and more often we are getting stopped for longer periods of time so they can lay the piping, but that is the cost of developmenet, right? We can only wonder what this new addition of asphalt to the Arajuno Road will bring to the communities in which we work in the years to come.
