After five weeks here at the project I have finally found the perfect day trip or getaway for the weekends. It is a small town called Piatua, on the way to Tena from Puyo. The bus fair is cheap, costing only a mere $1.50. Piatua is about an hour and fifteen minutes away from Puyo. Upon arriving you can see a beautiful river with a small bridge crossing it. You walk across the bridge and then take a left down a small dirt road that parrallels the river. You can walk down this road until you find a spot on the river that suits you.
I came to the Arajuno Road Project for 6 weeks and immensely enjoyed the time with the kids and other volunteers in the house. One of the highlights of this program is the weekends. You can do whatever you like, stay at the house and be lazy in the hammocks or go for the more adventurous option of going to another town.
Volunteering at The Arajuno Road Project has been an amazing experience! I have been here for four weeks and loved it all.
In my first week there were Christmas activities arranged at the schools for the children by the organizations coordinators. The children loved the activities, which included apple bobbing, outdoor games and reading. It was a great way for me to be introduced to the children...they were very excited and very friendly towards me. The activities also helped prepare me for teaching in my second week. Most of the children recognized me and remembered my name and the games we played.
